Traditional Thai Massage

History, methods and benefits

Sanity Thai Massage Los Gatos is proud to honor the 2,500 year history of Traditional Thai massage and offer its numerous benefits to our clients. Traditional Thai Massage originated as a distillation of Indian Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese healing arts and evolved into a yoga-based massage method based on lines, points, and remedies. Incorporating yoga-style stretching seeks to eliminate blockages to the flow of energy throughout the body and mind.

They say the founder of Thai massage and medicine was Shivago Kamarupan, who according to the Pāli Buddhist canon was the Buddha’s personal physician.

Traditional Thai Massage seeks to balance the recipient’s body, mind and spirit.

It is a deep, full-body treatment applying pressure on the “sen lines”, and stimulating pressure points to open the body’s energy pathways, allowing healing energy to flow freely, thus promoting the body to heal itself.

Thai massage works similarly to practicing yoga poses. As participants hold a pose, blood slows to targeted areas. When the yogi releases the pose, fresh circulation rushes back into the area.

The physical benefits of Traditional Thai Massage include:

• Increases blood circulation, lowers blood pressure and breathing
• Good for muscle relaxation, increases flexibility in your muscles, increases mobility
• Improves posture, balance, corrects body alignments and dissolves energy blockages
• Improves athletic performance
